What yoga is to me
There are unlimited definitions of what yoga is. Many people believe yoga is bending your body in to near impossible poses, however achieving the final pose itself is just an added bonus to what yoga is.
Physically Yoga is a great way of working out and exercising the body. Through a series of different poses which use movement and breathe together, you work every muscle group of the body which stretches and lengthens. By holding the poses, you increase strength, flexibility and balance.
It’s also a perfect addition to any other type training or sport. Not only will you see improvements on your yoga mat but you will also see it in your other sporting activities.
Apart from the physical benefits yoga also improves your breathing, Calms the mind, focuses your awareness and creates a discipline which are incredible tools you can use off your mat too.
There have been many scientific studies of the benefits of yoga physically and mentally, you just need to look on the internet for endless lists. I cannot vouch for all of them but the benefits I have experienced far out ways any other activity I have tried. I always leave a yoga practice with a smile my face and revitalised not matter what type of day I had before the class.
The great thing about yoga is that is works for everyone, it doesn’t matter what you do for a living, there is no age limit and you don’t have to be strong or flexible to practice. You just need to have an open mind and be willing to try.
The best way to truly understand yoga and its benefits is to give it a go, chances are you’ll love it!!!
